I'm the 7th grade English language arts teacher and yearbook adviser at The Museum School of Avondale Estates.
Prior to teaching at TMS, I taught 9th through 12th grade students and advised the yearbook staff at Dunwoody High School.
Though I've lived in large cities like Atlanta and New York City, I grew up in the fruitcake capital of the world -- Claxton, Georgia -- and first attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. I met my husband, Brian, in 2004 while studying anthropology at Georgia State University. I specialized in education, and my husband specialized in public health. He's now an epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society.
We got married in the summer of 2010, adopted a labradoodle named Chloe in February 2011, added a daughter named Margot to the family in September 2014, and adopted a lab named Ripley in August 2016. We love to spend our time talking about books and the stars.
Social Media Use
This year, I'm expanding my use of online media to include Twitter and Instagram. My goal is to create enthusiasm about reading and writing in a space where students ALREADY read and write.
Parents and students may follow me for updates but this isn't a requirement. I'll be posting assignment information and requirements under each course's "Weekly Plans" on my weebly site (yay, you're already here!) and on Google Classroom.
Further, I'll be following my hashtags, not parents or students' personal feeds to preserve privacy.
So what can you expect? I'll be posting book reviews and grammar practice using the handle @dtaborcarter and the following hashtags:
